The Canterville Ghost

MY BOOK REVIEW

.

Title: The Canterville Ghost (LL0440) (LL0833)
Author: Oscar Wilde
Genre: horror / comic
Setting: The old castle of Canterville, in the countryside near Ascot, in England
Main characters: Hiram B. Otis and his family; Sir Simon and his wife Lady Eleanor, the ghosts; Mrs. Umney, the housekeeper.

.

PLOT: A wealthy American, Hiram B. Otis, moves to England and chooses to live with his family in the ancient castle of Canterville, although everyone warns him that the castle is haunted by an old ghost, that of the ancient owner, Sir Simon, who killed his wife Lady Eleonore and disappeared into thin air… The ghost’s pranks will seem small compared to those made by Otis’ twin children. The family members, not believing in ghosts, will not be impressed in front of anything and Sir Simon will have to accept his defeat after three centuries.

.

MY OPINION: “The Canterville Ghost” is one of Oscar Wilde’s best-known works, it is a quick and fun reading, full of irony but which also investigates the feelings of the protagonists and highlights the good in everyone.
